• Notes, 1860. By 1860, Rosemond owned a great deal of property in Brulee St. Vincent. The largest tract of land be purchased was 78 acres, bought from Lobit and Charpentier, merchants from New Orleans.This purchase included a sugar house and was valued at $9,000. His total land holdings were appraised at $13,000. However, a mortgage of about $5,000 was due on his pruchases. Other things he owned were slaves: Harry, a man 56 or 58 years old, Toto (or Edwards), a man about 35 years old; and Elizabeth, a woman about 26 years old. Finally, he owned two mules, seven horses, a pair of oxen, two cows, five calves, 100 chords of wood, 28 empty hogsheads, a carriage, and several other items. The total value of his property was estimated at $19,274.
